Instructions Prior to Microsurgery Under IV Sedation
You have been scheduled for an endodontic microsurgical procedure. The procedure will be performed using both IV sedation and local anesthesia. You must have someone to drive you home and be able to stay with you for a few hours. Discomfort after the procedure is minimal and readily controlled with medications. Detailed written instructions will be given concerning post-operative care at the time of your appointment.
Please note the following instructions.
1. Nothing to eat or drink for 6 hours before your appointment.
2. Continue all medications for blood pressure, thyroid problems and any other conditions as recommended by your physician. If you have diabetes you may need to check with your physician to see when to time your medications. If there is a question, please call our office prior to your appointment.
3. If you have been advised by your physician or dentist to use antibiotic premedication be cause of mitral valve prolapse (MVP), heart murmur, hip, knee, cardiac, or other prosthesis, or if you have had rheumatic heart disease, please make sure you are on the appropriate antibiotic on the day of the appointment. Please call if you have questions.
4. If you are on an aspirin regimen or any blood-thinning medication, please inform us so that we may consult with your physician before the surgery.
5. If you can take ibuprofen ( Advil 200mg) or naproxen sodium (Aleve 220mg), it does help inflammation and pain after the appointment if take pre-operatively. Take 4 Advil every 6 hours or 2 Aleve every 12 hours for the day before the appointment stop medications 6 hours before appointment ( when eating and drinking is restricted).
6. Please wear comfortable clothes with short sleeves, so may place the IV and blood pressure monitors.
